NEUCHATEL, Switzerland / April 30th, 1999 - Latest news from XEMICS, today
reveals a new series of microcontrollers, introducing the XE8851. This
low-power, mixed signal Microcontroller Unit (MCU) comes complete with Analog to
Digital Converter (ADC), with programmable offset and gain pre-amplifier, plus 2
Digital to Analog Converters (DAC). Utilising the CoolRISC® processor core, the
XE8851 provides low-power, low-voltage solutions for sensing applications.
The XE8851 can deliver 1MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second), under 2.4 V-5.5 V bias with a current consumption below 300 uA. These combined properties unfold the right design for customised applications like portable battery operated instruments, bus-powered sensors, and motor control.
The XE8851 is marked for its advanced acquisition path, with programmable gain (0.5 - 1000), offset (± 15 FS) and resolution (5 - 16 bits). These programmable characteristics can compensate for sensors with larger offsets off of smaller signals, therefore preventing loss of effective measurement precision.
A total latency lower than 1ms is achieved between 12 bits acquisition, including computed temperature gain, offset compensation, and analog output reaction. The on-chip Multiple Time Programmable memory, facilitates on-site calibration and software updates. A multiple of signals with diverse gain, offset and resolution can be connected at the input of the acquisition path. When put in sleep mode between two samples, the acquisition path can be completely shut off.
Available within the general
development environment of the XE8851 is a complete set of development tools,
including ANSI-C Compiler, assembler, source level debugger, simulator and
emulator.
