XEMICS, a leader in low power, low voltage IC design, today announced the release of its CooLib™ physical digital cell library to support Tower Semiconductor (NASDAQ: TSEMF) 0.5um chip manufacturing technology. An agreement between the companies enables Tower to offer its foundry customers the library that will enable design of low power, low voltage ICs aimed at the consumer, industrial, communications and computer markets, fulfilling the increasing demand for substantially reduced power consumption. The libraries will support Tower's digital, embedded flash, and mixed-signal processes.
Tower's customers will now have access to a high end low power, low voltage library that has been designed and characterized to Tower's 0.5um process, which is also the base process for Tower's
microFLASH® process. The library will reduce both the customer's risk and time to market when designing chips for battery operated systems. It has been optimized to allow extended lifetime operation with 2 AAA batteries.
''As a leading foundry focusing on mixed-signal and embedded flash CMOS processes, Tower is committed to providing its customers with the best libraries possible to speed designs through manufacture,'' said Reuven Marko, vice president of marketing and sales for Tower. ''Xemics' libraries enable our customers to access high-quality, low power cell libraries that enables advanced product development.''
A synthesis evaluation library is available free of charge from XEMICS. Customers will also have access to the different views under a simplified license agreement.
''This move was the next logical step to reinforce our partnership with Tower,'' said Remy Pache, vice president of business development at XEMICS. ''As a fabless semiconductor company specializing in low power, mixed-signal ICs, XEMICS selected Tower for its mixed-signal with embedded flash microcontroller-based products. So teaming up with our foundry partner and giving their customers access to the lowest possible power libraries, is the perfect match for expanding our IP activities''
About XEMICS
Xemics designs and then delivers in volume mixed analog, digital and radiofrequency integrated circuits, mainly for battery-operated devices. The company also markets its ultra low-power digital cell libraries CooLib™ and 8-bit RISC core CoolRISC™ as IP products. For 1999, its second year of operation, the company is expecting total revenues of 23M Swiss francs (approx. 17M USD). For its IC activities, Xemics acts as a fabless semiconductor company, subcontracting wafer manufacturing from major foundries around the world, and offering ''One Stop Shop'' services to its customers, from design to product delivery. In 1998, 40 different products, representing several million devices have been sold. Xemics markets are those for which high performance, ultra low-power and quite often miniaturization are key elements. These include: Hearing aids, watches, portable electronic devices, utility meters, security systems, pressure and acceleration sensing systems, short distance wireless RF communication, GPS, and deeply embedded systems based on RISC and DSP cores.
