March 1st 2000, in Silicon Valley, XEMICS will launch of its first subsidiary, XEMICS USA Inc, to expand its business in North America

Neuchâtel, Switzerland and Mountain View, CA February 11, 2000

Neuchatel, Switzerland - 11th February 2000 - XEMICS SA, the Swiss fabless semiconductor company, announced today its expanded presence in the North American market. XEMICS USA Inc, the company's first subsidiary, will be based in Mountain View in the heart of Silicon Valley. It will be in an ideal position to exploit its low- power systems-on-chip products and focus on customer needs, from product definition to volume delivery and on-site support.

XEMICS' US subsidiary's primary goal is to intensify sales and marketing activities in the North American market. At present, the US market accounts for 20% of XEMICS' sales turnover. With this expansion, the company is aiming to increase that figure to 40% by the end of 2001. By being on-site, XEMICS USA can provide US customers with full services and application support.

XEMICS USA will concentrate on marketing its core activities for portable audio devices, sensing applications, remote metering, short distance wireless communication, deeply embedded microcontrollers and DSPs, hand-held battery-operated applications and GPS.

Remy Pache, currently VP Business Development at XEMICS SA, will manage the newly created subsidiary. ''I am very excited about my role in this new venture,'' he said. ''Being based in Silicon Valley means that we will be able to generate closer ties with other fast moving semiconductor industries. We will now have a greater potential not only to develop hi-tech partnerships with some of the major players in this industry, but also benefit from having a much larger customer base to work with.''
