XEMICS, a Swiss fabless semiconductor company, is proud to present the
XE1201A, a new revision of the popular single chip UHF transceiver. It is
specially designed for low-power and low-voltage wireless data link
applications. With a new integrated Power Amplifier allowing an output power of
+5dBm, it meets the need for a low cost and physically small half-duplex data
transceiver.
The XE1201A is pin to pin compatible with the XE1201, with any changes for the specifications in receiver mode. The XE1201A includes a bit synchronizer so that synchronized received data can be directly read by a microcontrolller. It operates in the 300 - 500MHz frequency range, and is compatible with the ETS300-220 standard for operation in the 433.92MHz unlicensed frequency band.
The XE1201A targets industrial and building control, automotive and remote sensing applications, including but not limited to energy-meter remote reading, remote control, and tire monitoring.
The home automation market (see picture) is one of the most popular for the XE1201A. The XE1201A's most important advantages in this market are ZERO IF architecture for small form factor, FSK modulation for high data reliability in bad environment. The half-duplex operation enables a higher security and intelligent control. The others XE1201A's advantages for this type of application are high data rate for high security data transmission, high reception sensitivity and high output power for long distance communication, low power consumption for long battery life.
Among the XE1201A's many uses in the home markets are anti-theft systems, smoke and fire detection; temperature, humidity and light control; and key-less entry applications.
This BICMOS direct conversion
circuit operates down to 2.4 Volts, and uses CPFSK modulation. In stand-by mode
it consumes less than 1uA, 6mA in reception, and 13.5mA in transmission mode at
+5dBm. The data rate can be programmed between 4k bit/s and 64k bit/s. The
sensitivity is -112dBm. The output power can be programmed from -15dBm up to
+5dBm.
