XEMICS and Trimble Sign Chipset Customer

Neuchâtel, Switzerland and Mountain View, CA May 8, 2001

Through a joint sales agreement XEMICS, a Swiss fabless semiconductor company, and Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) today announced that InnoLabs Corporation will be adding Global Positioning System (GPS) functionality to its personal computing tablets.

InnoLabs will be purchasing the XEMICS XE1610 GPS chipset. The chipset, based on Trimble's FirstGPS™ technology, allows high volume manufacturers of consumer products to add GPS location capability with minimal impact on device size and battery life. XEMICS' chipset is the smallest and lowest power implementation of Trimble's FirstGPS technology to date. It is specifically designed for power-sensitive, wireless enabled, mobile information devices such as laptops, PDAs, digital cameras, and even wristwatches.

About InnoLabs' Computing Tablets

InnoLabs' products pack the power and functionality of a PC into its ergonomic computing tablets that are approximately the size of a standard sheet of paper. Transmeta's Crusoe™ 5400 CPU clocked up to 700MHz powers the newest product: the Evita 2000P series , which was first shown at the Fall Comdex 2000. Together with a 10GB to 20GB HDD, 128MB - 512MB DDR-SDRAM as well as a high capacity Lithium-Ion battery, the complete hardware fits in a magnesium case just under 3cm thick, weighing 1.2kg. The tablet has a touch screen display, built-in color digital camera, and handwriting recognition capabilities as well as W-LAN (IEEE802.11B), sound, WAP, GPRS, USB and a smart card reader. With the XE1610 chipset, InnoLabs' products will now add GPS location capabilities to its list of innovative features. The Evita 2000P series is equipped with WindowsТ 2000 Professional. The computing tablets are used for a variety of industrial and professional applications, such as warehouse and factory management, field repair service, natural resource management, healthcare (telemedicine), on-site insurance claims and processing as well as law enforcement.

About the XEMICS XE1610 chipset

The jointly developed, 8-channel XEMICS chipset offers the lowest power consumption of any GPS receiver on the market today. The chipset is comprised of one baseband ASIC and one RF ASIC. The baseband ASIC consumes less than 5 milliwatts and the RF ASIC less than 20 milliwatts. It is ideal for power-sensitive applications. For devices that only need location-on-demand, several sleep and low-power modes allow for further power savings and longer battery life. With Trimble's FirstGPS technology, it is also communication independent and capable of interfacing with a wide range of devices including AMPS, CDMA, TDMA, GSM, 3G, CDPD and others.

XEMICS' chipset implementation of the baseband and RF ASICs is extremely compact. The baseband chip is packed in a 16-pin SOP (10mm x 3mm) and the RF chip in a 24-pin TSSOP (7mm x 4mm). The high level of integration translates to low component count and enables a tiny footprint that facilitates the integration of GPS functionality into a variety of mobile devices.

The GPS chipset is available now through XEMICS' worldwide sales and distribution channel. For more information visit: http://www.xemics.com/wireless.html#1600
